Modernity has Burned Us

Soothe the burn...

Wheatfield with Crows by Vincent Van Gogh

We have fallen out of love with the world for 3 reasons brought upon by modernity:

1. Overwhelming Negativity

Many of us don't realize that the world is big, beautiful, mysterious and exciting. We tether ourselves to global and local events that occupy our every other thought and are convinced the world is worse off and that people are terrifying and harmful.

We don't need to know everything that is going on. We don't need to feel helpless and hopeless.

Let's feed our spirit, not the algorithm.

2. Disillusionment with Society

Modern society is obsessed with individual achievement and success. Globalism and the internet have showed us the lifestyles and achievements of people we've never met and will never know.

We must narrow the frame of reference. Compare ourselves only to our past selves and our personal heroes.

3. Loneliness and Isolation

We're connected now more than ever, but have disconnected in the most meaningful ways.

- Deep, personal relationships

- Face to face interactions

- Sources for contentment and belonging

We need to make meaningful bonds. We have to harmonize with our local environment. And, we need to find something we're good at and do it with others.

Let's fall in love with the world again!
